NodeJS is really just JavaScript ontop of a framework. If you got through the learnyounode parts you should have all the know how.

Any case, not sure what I used to learn NodeJS when I started understanding it.. But imma guess this playlist

I hope it makes it click for you, TheNewBoston always seems to explain everything well imo.

And once you get what NodeJS basically does, or better yet, how it's semantics work you'll notice that it's fairly simple to work with. Good luck. :)

Really appreciate this, thank you!

I think my problems are: A. Not fully grasping JS concepts B. Getting fatigued by trying to build MEAN apps with tutorials when I have no clue what Angular does, and don't understand Node.

I will give that playlist a look! Thanks again
